Forest School

At Portman we aim to do forest school with all the children

Forest school is playful learning in a forest over a period of time.

The aim is to enable children to love and care for the natural world.

We learn about the forest and things you can do there. It can involve tool use and fires but these are planned and prepared for.

We take the same group of children to a wood once a week every week for six weeks so the children really get to know it.

We go in all weathers but we dress so that children stay comfortable- the weather and dressing for it is part of the learning.

Forest school happens on Fridays, we leave about 10.00 and return by 2.30pm.

We go to Queens Wood in Highgate. We go by Tube and the children learn lots about transport and environmental print while on the journey.
